How to prepare a wall for wallpaper
Wallpaper takes the shape of the surface that it is applied to. A neat, white and flat surface will give the best result.
Before Installation
A properly prepared wall - is the key to high-quality wallpapering without visible seams!
- The surface of the wall must be free of old wallpaper, pieces of wallpaper, any kind of dirt, such as dust, grease, mold, paint stains.
- Remove nails/screws and patch any cracks.
- Disconnect the electrical network and remove all covers from sockets and switches.
- Sand any unevenness on the wall until it is completely smooth.
- For old walls, use a sponge and warm water to clean the wall of dust. Let the wall dry for at least 24 hours.
- For new walls, prime the wall with an Oil-based primer for a good installation. Let it dry and cure for atleast a week.
Important: before installing, let the wallpaper lie down in the room where it will be installed for a day before wallpapering. To do this, you need to either unfold the wallpaper and put it on a clean floor (this is the best), or slightly relax the roll so that there is air between the sheets. This will adjust (expand or contract) the wallpaper to the temperature of your region.
